Roy F. Thompson, M.A., C.Psych
Psychologist/Private Practice
I am the primary psychology practitioner with Thompson Psychological Services. I have been providing mental health services to clients in Northern Ontario since 1999. I was licensed to practice psychology independently in June 2005 and have offered a wide range of psychological services to guide clients through life’s challenges and most trying times.
Life can be challenging, and sometimes a little help from a professional Psychologist can make things better. I care about your well-being and provide you all the tools you need in order to seize the day and learn how to tackle even the most traumatic circumstances.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
I obtained an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from Laurentian University in 1996 and a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology from Lakehead University in 2000.
To qualify for registration to practice psychology in Ontario, I completed 5 years of post-masters supervision in Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, and Sudbury working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. In June 2005, I was registered for independent practice with the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO) . In addition to providing counselling, psychotherapy, consultation, and psychological assessments for a wide variety of mental health, learning, and neurodevelopmental problems, I am actively involved in promoting evidence-informed practices and analyzing treatment outcomes at Algoma Family Services in Sault Ste. Marie. I also provide clinical supervision to qualifying psychological associates and psychologists.
For over 20 years I have provided mental health training presentations to health care professionals and other allied community members (e.g., teachers, probation officers, & police). Areas of past research have included personality, social learning, anxiety and depression, meditation/mindfulness, neurodevelopmental disorders, and evidence-based mental health practices. In addition, I am fluently bilingual in French and English.
